A California Poem
ByIn September of 1850 California became our 31st state
As for movie stars and beaches, it’s such a great place
Its capital city is known as Sacramento
“Eureka” (I have found it) is the state’s motto
Its population is 37 million people or more
And this state offers tourist attractions galore
California is the third largest state in size
With over 160,000 square miles it spans far and wide
It’s called the “Golden State” for its discovery of gold
And has the nation’s greatest population as we are told
There are big cities as Los Angeles and San Francisco
It’s the land of the valleys and Hollywood Studios
The Golden Gate Bridge crosses the San Francisco Bay
California is notorious in many other ways
It’s the corporate headquarters of Google and Yahoo
And the state where the Silicon Valley is located too
Its climate ranges from subarctic to Mediterranean
Seasons are most extreme in this western land
California produces one third of the nation’s food
With the most amount of turkeys and agricultural goods
There are many state parks and vacation must-sees
The Sequoia National Park has the largest of trees
And the Belmont Amusement Park and San Diego zoo
Plus Sea World, Legoland and Disneyland too
California has great features both far and wide
On the other hand this state has its darker side
There’re tsunamis, floods, landslides, and droughts
And earthquakes are many due to its many faults
There are many wildfires and Santa Ana winds
And inactive volcanoes located there within
While its mountains are high and its valleys are low
There is a great amount of land below sea level
But with its great entertainment and its festivals
For folks that want to vacation, it’s a great place to go
It is dignity for which its residents strive
Everyone should visit this state at least once in their life
